Jared moved to Stillwater for a girl in 1998, and along with falling in love with her, fell in love with the town. Unfortunately, the girl didn’t work out, but that didn’t stop him. During his time in Stillwater, Jared managed Cowboy Copy for a few years before launching Stillwater Scene in 2001. Stillwater Scene was an entertainment magazine which featured local bands, live theater, college events, concerts, movies, and more. It informed the community of Stillwater for 15 years before he called it quits at a very difficult juncture in his life.

It was at this point that he wanted to simplify his life, after another very difficult breakup. Jared stepped away from Stillwater Scene at the height of its popularity, as well as ending other businesses he ran such as Funnies Comedy Club and Searching for Red Productions. The one thing that he kept active in his business-life was Karaoke with Jared & Friends, which he officially launched in 2014.
